Remarkable! Read it!
I had wondered what sane Democrats thought of all this insanity… of their Party being hijacked, and essentially destroyed.
Yes, there are sane Democrats, and here are some!

Found via Instapundit, this is a long but fascinating article. I recommend it.
You will recall a poll from many months ago in which a majority of Americans felt the government no longer has the consent of the governed. This was major.
A friend of mine is the leader of an ethnic group in my area. Not long ago she was telling me about participating in a political event for Jerry Brown, candidate for CA governor. She said (roughly, from memory) “Whitman is an interesting candidate too. We don’t care which party the candidate is, we care about what they know about our people, their history of voting on our people, and their plans and policies regarding us.”
In other words, their support will go to whomever they believe is most likely to benefit their particular group.
OK, I’m naive, I had to think about that perspective. I was brought up to consider what is best for the country, and to vote against my own personal interests if I believe it is in the interests of the country.
Her statement is a good definition of interest groups, and if you are also naive, maybe you want to think about it.
The linked article by James V. DeLong discusses the massive involvement of interest groups in US politics, and the author believes we are soon coming to an end of this phase in US history. Due to manipulation by interest groups, the government has lost legitimacy, and the present and growing level of interest group involvement is unsustainable. It has led to the unwieldy complexity that now prevents almost anybody from doing almost anything.
Read it, Mr. DeLong’s projection into the future is very coherent and interesting.

Surprise, surprise.
Either ACORN chief organizer Bertha Lewis is trying to incite civil war or race war or class war in the United States or she forgot to take her meds.
In a March 25 speech to the winter conference of the Young Democratic Socialists the youth arm of Democratic Socialists of America she said the tea party was a “bowel movement” and praised socialism. Normally ACORN leaders dance around the question of whether they are socialists so this is a welcome departure in terms of institutional transparency.

President Barack Obama’s job approval, which bounced slightly to a 45 – 46 percent split March 25 in the wake of his health care victory, has flattened out at 44 – 46 percent, his lowest approval rating since his inauguration, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.
